I have traveled to many places in the world, though there are far too many places that I have to go to!! My journey with photography started with my
travels (bought my first camera - Pentax MZ50 - in Stockholm). In this series I have presented some of my snap shots from travel.Let me start with Varanasi
(Sunrise by the Holy Ganges) which is considered India's spiritual abode - the land of temples. I have always wondered what
Varanasi is. Is it mere spiritualism? Or is it the answer to millions of people who come here in search of peace? I have often tried to capture the beauty
of life by the holy waters of the Ganges . When I saw this hand painted image of Lord Shiva on a water tank, I smiled to myself. To me this was Varanasi -
where spiritualism exists in the mundane.
Traveling to a historical place always intrigued me as a child. But Paestum (Italy) excelled my imagination. I stood there awe struck - trying to fathom
how the Greeks could build a column (Footprints of Time) way back in 6 BC, in fact, temples that stood erect till this day. The looming column seemed to
have so many stories of centuries engraved on it, and I got a chill thinking that it will treasure the stories of today for generations to come. The Amalfi coast
has many other treasures such as Positano (Pause in Positano, Painter in Positano and Positano Beach), Capri (A Drink in Capri,
Path in Capri, Door in Capri) and Pompeii (Please see my photograph - If Walls could talk in Architecture and Interiors Gallery).
Australia has been the first country I visited in the southern hemisphere. Visiting from Denver, it was interesting to see posters of surfing Santa in Sydney
during the Christmas time of our visit. I had taken a lot of shots of iconic structures - Sydney Harbor Bridge and Opera House. But my favorite one is Exotic
Australia. I love shooting iconic symbols of a nation during my travel, and try to present it in a different context. Back in US, I considered it an honor to capture
the symbol of Freedom and Liberty - Statue of Liberty.
My travels in US have given me a few opportunities for road trips and capturing roadside vistas (Whirling against the clouds). Of course there are far too
many places yet to be experienced. Seattle has been a significant influence in my life, and so has its iconic structure - Space Needle, which I wanted to
shoot in a different way. Space and Time are two entities that have always intrigued a physicist. Quite figuratively, I wondered how I can show space traveling
in the time coordinate. Space Needle came to my help and so did the art of night photography. I shot this photograph (Illusions) on a quiet night from Queen Anne
Avenue. This was also the last frame of my film roll in the last night of my stay in Seattle - leaving no scope of bracketing. But sometime wonders do happen in
life!!
